Eric Scheidler Statement on the Illinois General Assembly’s Vote to Repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act

Late last night (October 27, 2021), the Illinois House of Representatives voted to repeal the state’s Parental Notice of Abortion Act. The Illinois Senate had previously voted to repeal the act, and Governor J.B. Pritzker is expected to sign the repeal into law. In response, Pro-Life Action League executive director Eric Scheidler released the following statement today:

This is a dark day for Illinois. The General Assembly has ignored the rights of parents and the views of most Illinois voters to side with abortion clinics and sex traffickers to keep parents from knowing if their minor daughters get abortions. But this repeal doesn’t only set the stage for our daughters to be exploited: The three massive abortion facilities Planned Parenthood has built on our states’ borders will allow abusers to bring girls to Illinois from throughout the Midwest for secret abortions. Our task now is to educate parents on how to protect their daughters, now that the state government has let them down.
