Protest of Planned P’hood’s Forum on Family Planning in Chicago [Photo by Matt Yonke]
A few weeks ago, the Pro-Life Action League caught wind of a top-secret abortion conference hosted by Planned Parenthood and the Society of Family Planning called the North American Forum on Family Planning.
This forum would gather the abortion industry’s most elite players to recruit new abortionists, train them in new methods, and honor the “heroes” of big abortion. The forum would even help expand the reach of the “family planning” regime of abortion, sterilization and contraception in developing nations.
The conference was slated to take place in Chicago, the League’s headquarter city, but the specific location and schedule were kept deep under wraps. In fact, to even find that information and apply to attend the conference, one had to obtain two letters of recommendation from people affiliated with the organizing groups!
No doubt the increased sense of secrecy was driven by the release of the videos from the Center for Medical Progress exposing Planned Parenthood’s harvesting and trafficking in aborted baby body parts. Much of the footage from those videos was obtained at conferences just like this one.
Normally, protesting an event like this in our own back yard would be a no-brainer. But without a location or a schedule for the conference, there was no way we could. Even after tons of deep research, no information was found.
Finally, on Thursday, the day before the first day of the conference, despite their best efforts to keep it secret, we found the location: The Palmer House Hilton hotel in downtown Chicago. With the location confirmed, we started the wheels in motion for a protest on Monday, the last day of the conference.
Run-Ins with Abortion Elites
The next day, my colleague John Jansen headed down to the Palmer House to confirm that the forum was indeed taking place there. Sure enough, not only did John find the meeting rooms where the conference was taking place, none other than Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards walked past him in the lobby!

On Monday at noon, as we pulled up to the hotel for the protest, we caught sight of notorious late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart catching a cab outside the hotel. He didn’t want to stop to talk, unfortunately.
A great crowd turned out of about 30 pro-lifers—a remarkable group for the middle of the day on a Monday—and we set them up with photos of abortion’s victims as well as signs reading Planned Parenthood Lies to You and Planned Parenthood sells baby parts.
We also distributed hundreds of pieces of literature—both a piece specially designed to expose the North American Forum on Family Planning, and the excellent brochure “The Truth About Planned Parenthood” from our friends at Human Life Alliance.
Abortionist Prays on the Street Corner
In the middle of the protest, as I was standing next to League National Director Joe Scheidler, a woman came out of the Palmer House and kneeled down on the sidewalk next to Joe’s sign depicting baby Malachi, aborted at 21 weeks
After starting her phone to record audio, she began to pray. She opened her prayer saying:
My dear heavenly father, I’m grateful today to be here at this wonderful meeting, and I wanted to express to you the gratitude and humility I feel as an abortionist.
She continued on for nearly four minutes, praising God for the gift of abortion and praying that we pro-lifers would come to see the light about how “abortion stigma harms women more than anything else”.
After her prayer, she got up and walked away. Look for video of the bizarre prayer in a forthcoming post.
Pro-Lifers Sing Praise while Counter-Protesters Chant
At the close of the protest, we gathered for a prayer and joined together in a verse of “Holy God We Praise Thy Name.”
A few counter-protesters had gathered toward the end of the protest and decided to try to silence our singing with the tired old chant of “Keep Your Rosaries Off My Ovaries”, but to no avail:
Thanks to all who came out to make this protest a success!
