January 25, 1983—Just days after the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, League Director Joe Scheidler’s daily call-in Action News Hotline is overwhelmed by so many calls that the League staff considers adding another phone line. At its peak popularity in the pre-Internet era, the Action News Hotline—one of the first of its kind— received several hundred calls a day, a precursor to the pro-life blogs that would play such an important role in later decades.
