The Pro-Life Action League was well represented at Arlington Heights’ Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 31. Scores of pro-life activists wore bright red Face the Truth Tour t-shirts and caps as they witnessed to the sanctity of life during the village’s annual parade.  Emblazoned across their backs was our message, Choose Life. They were joined by an equal number wearing t-shirts espousing Life. Many, including little children, carried signs which read We Choose Life.

Knights of Columbus Rally Pro-Life Paraders

The Knights of Columbus graciously invited us to march with them in the parade; they also provided the We Choose Life signs.  Sue and Jim McPherrin, Pro-life chair couple Holy Rosary Council #4483, organized the pro-life presence.

Laura Vandercar, North West Families for Life, her son Daniel, and I brought up the rear carrying a ten foot wide banner reading All I Want For Christmas is an End to Abortion banner.  Behind us was the Hersey High School marching band.

This was my first time marching in a parade with a pro-life banner and I wasn’t sure what to expect from the crowd.  Would we be greeted by pro-abort louts giving us the one fingered salute?

Holiday Crowd Cheers Pro-Life Message

I am thrilled to say that as we meandered through downtown Arlington Heights we were greeted with an almost endless round of applause.  Women holding babies smiled and waved while their husbands gave us thumbs up.  Everywhere I looked I saw smiling faces.

I heard exactly one person shout “pro-choice.” I didn’t even bother to see who the misguided woman was but will remember her in my prayers. The final tally: thousands of positive pro-life responses to one.  Just one more proof that the tide has turned.
