More Reasons Why the Pill Is Bad for Women

Two men wrote fantastic letters to the editor this week in support of our 2008 Face the Truth Tour.

Letter Writers Support Truth Tour

Many thanks to Mark Whitfield, who wrote in to the Rockford Register Star, “If people take offense to a few pictures, well, let’s just say I consider that a small price to pay to stop the slaughter.”

And Jim Finnegan, President of Choose Life Illinois, wrote in the Daily Herald, “People sometimes holler ‘Get a job’ or ‘Go home.’ I can truthfully say after 35 years in this struggle for sanity, that I have never had a more important job, nor ever felt more at home than on the streets of America with the message of what abortion does to our children.”

Well said, Mark and Jim!

Protest at Aurora Planned Parenthood Saturday, August 16

Would you like to be a part of something important? This Saturday, our Communications Director, Eric, will be leading the monthly Planned Parenthood protest in Aurora. Saturday is the one year anniversary of the first League protest at this site. Meet at the corner of New York and Oakhurst Roads; they’ll be there from 9:00 to 10:30am.

Other Upcoming Pro-Life Activities

There are a number of other opportunities for you to join pro-life activists while the weather is so beautiful. Illinois Right to Life President Bill Beckman continues to lead a protest of the Planned Parenthood Express in Orland Park on the first Saturday of the month. The next protest will be September 6 from 10:00 am to noon.

Dan Gura—my dad—will be leading their monthly picket of Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge on the second Saturday of the month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

More Reasons Why the Birth Control Pill Is Bad for Women

Finally, here’s an article that caught my attention. This one comes from Fox News, but it was reported in several other places as well. The headline reads: “Study: Women Who Take Birth Control Pills May Choose the Wrong Men.”

As they say, it’s better late than never. Pro-lifers have known this about the Pill for years now—Dr. Janet Smith spoke about this at our “Contraception is not the Answer” conference two years ago!

Dr. Smith goes into much more depth than the news stories, so if you haven’t heard her talk, you can get a copy from LCE Media. (Orders can be placed online or by calling them at 1-800-693-3884.)

Anyhow, this “recent” breakthrough study analyzes women’s attraction to men’s MHC genes. Women who are not on contraceptives are attracted men with opposite genes from their own—this leads to high compatibility for, among other things, reproduction.

Contracepting women, on the other hand, are attracted to men with genes similar to their own. In many cases, this causes infertility. Now here’s the part that really blows my mind: because their preferences change when you get off the Pill, if a woman met her husband while contracepting and now gets off of it so she can have a baby with him, she may find that she’s no longer attracted to him!

Yet another reason women shouldn’t be pumping hormones and pills into their bodies—just remember that you heard it from the League first.
