“40 Days for Life” prayer vigil coming 9/24-11/2

40 Days for LifeLast year on this date, we made our first momentous visit to the Aurora City Council. Over 100 pro-lifers stood up and spoke out against Planned Parenthood, and hundreds more packed the Council Chambers, stairways and courtyard outside City Hall. It was an amazing day, which led to an investigation into deception by Planned Parenthood, drew major media attention to our fight and switched our entire campaign into high gear—and it was all made possible by prayer.

It all began with prayer

Our campaign began with a simple prayer vigil outside the then-empty building at 3051 E. New York Street. Prayer VigilPrayer has been the foundation of everything we have accomplished over the past year, from the the nationwide attention we brought down on Planned Parenthood’s lies and deception to the mothers and babies we’ve saved from abortion. And so, as we enter the second year of our spiritual siege of the “Abortion Fortress of Aurora”, it is fitting that we turn again to prayer on a biblical scale, by participating in the national 40 Days for Life campaign.

40 Days for Life comes to Aurora

Aurora, Illinois will be one of over 170 cities all across the country where pro-lifers will pray for an end to abortion right there outside the abortion centers, from September 24 through November 2—on the eve of the general election. Prayer VigilWe’ll kick off our vigil here in Aurora with a Candlelight Vigil starting at 7:00 p.m., September 24 on the sidewalk on Oakhurst behind Planned Parenthood of Aurora (map). Watch here for more information on the Candlelight Vigil as the date draws near. Then the vigil will continue—day and night, rain or shine—through to a Closing Ceremony the final weekend of the vigil, with several other Special Events along the way.

How can you help the 40 Days vigil?

40 Days for Life is still several weeks away, but you can already begin to take part and help make this vigil a great success:

  1. Prayer VigilDevote some time every day to pray for the vigil—that we can cover the hundreds of hours of prayer, that the vigil team can accomplish all their work and that the vigil be a peaceful, powerful witness for life.
  2. Volunteer to serve as a shift captain. Churches and other groups throughout the Fox Valley are taking responsibility for providing prayer coverage for six-hour vigil shifts, but we still have many shifts open.

You can take on a prayer shift with your church, prayer circle, Knights of Columbus Council, men’s or women’s group, youth group, friends and family, etc. Check out the Vigil Calendar on the Aurora 40 Days for Life site to see where help is needed, and call Mary Vilim at 630-466-0117 to volunteer.

  3. Sign up for 40 Days for Life updates for news and inspiration from the national campaign, as well as our local 40 Days vigil.
  4. Encourage your friends and family to get involved with 40 Days for Life and sign up, too!
