League National Director Joseph M. Scheidler sent the following Letter to Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Paprocki to thank him for confronting Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on his order requiring pharmicists to dispense abortifacient “morning after” pills against their consciences:

Most Rev. Thomas J. Paprocki
1400 South Austin Blvd.
Cicero, IL 60804
Dear Bishop Paprocki,
Thank you for courageously speaking out at St. Hyacinth’s on the issue of Gov. Blagojovich’s demand that pharmacists dispense the contraceptive pill and “morning after” pill. Not many of our religious leaders display the fortitude that it takes to counter the culture of death.
You have always been a strong voice for life in our society that is so hostile to the culture of life. The recent starvation of Terri Schiavo and the witness of Pope John Paul II to the value and dignity of human life have forced people to think about the profoundly important issues of life and death.
I am sure you will take a fair amount of criticism for being politically incorrect in professing the truth. But we are proud of you and pray that you will not become discouraged by comments by those who simply cannot understand why we find these assaults on life so offensive.
God bless you.
In Christ,
Joseph M. Scheidler
National Director
