Joe Scheidler with Ronald Reagan at the White House, Jan 22, 1986
The Pro-Life Action League joins our nation in mourning the loss of former President Ronald Reagan, who died Saturday, June 5, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Despite some unfortunate federal court appointments, Reagan was a friend of the pro-life movement, meeting with pro-life leaders several times on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The League’s Joe Scheidler was present at two of the meetings.
Reagan is lauded for having restored a sense of optimism to a nation dispirited by the scandals and crises of the seventies. The pro-life movement benefited from Reagan’s optimism and leadership. Pro-lifers remember Reagan for signing bills and issuing executive orders in an effort to curb abortion, and for authoring a powerful pro-life statement, Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation.
