The verdict in the Scott Peterson double murder trial underscores the right to life of every unborn child, commented Pro-Life Action League National Director Joe Scheidler in a statement to the press shortly after the verdict was announced Nov. 12. “We believe that every unborn life is valuable,” said Scheidler. “This case adds to the increasing evidence that it is no longer possible to pretend that an unborn baby has no right to life.”
The jury found Peterson guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his wife Laci and guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his unborn child, a son posthumously named Connor.
“The verdict in the Peterson case proves that the unborn child may not be deprived of his life by someone who is not his mother,” said Scheidler. “Now we need to establish that a mother has no right to kill her child either. How can the ‘right to abortion’ stand in the face of reality?”
