Letters to the Editor

We received literally hundreds of cards, phone calls e-mails, faxes and even flowers from pro-lifers across the country and around the world who were thrilled to hear the news of the Supreme Court victory in NOW v. Scheidler. Theses letters are a sampling of this outpouring of good wishes.

From Friends across the Country

Pro-life friends,

Please extend my sincere congratulations to Joe Scheidler and everyone at the Pro-Life Action League on the stunning victory in the United States Supreme Court in the case of Scheidler v. NOW.

This decision restores some faith in our legal system and gives hope that Roe v. Wade, like Dred Scott, will someday be overturned by a more enlightened Court.

“Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo, da gloriam!” (Psalm 115). God bless you,

Most Rev. Thomas J. Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago

PLAL,

I saw Joe and the witch on O’Reilly. Joe was great! Fay just beat herself up with her pure unfiltered vile hatred. It was almost cute! Again, tell Joe and Ann congrats!

Stuart Bensch,Blackwell, OK
Dear Mr. Scheidler:

Congratulations on this recent victory. I know it is perhaps premature to use the word victory for the victory will be when Roe v. Wade is overturned. Nevertheless the recent news that the court sided with you in NOW v. Scheidler gives me much happiness. I hold you in the highest esteem for all of the work you have done on behalf of the unborn. May God bless you and your work. All the best,

Jim Connell,East Weymouth, MA.
Hi,

Just a brief note to congratulate you for that great victory. It’s been such a long, hard struggle for you! I’m sure Jesus sustained you countless times when you felt that you couldn’t continue the fight. I believe that your sufferings helped to save many unborn babies’ lives. Thank you! Alleluia! In Jesus and Mary of Guadalupe,

Magaly Llaguno,HLI,Miami, FL

Joe,

We watched you on Fox News and learned of your victory over evil. We have prayed four Rosaries every day for you and for the end of abortion. We have never underestimated the power of prayer and will continue our Rosaries for the end of abortion. May God bless you, your family and all pro-lifers. May God keep you and all prolifers safe from all evil. In Jesus and Mary

Dear Joe and Ann,

Your faith and prayers and tears and hard work finally paid off! CONGRATULATIONS on a hard-found victory! I just have one question: When’s the party? Tim, Paul, Vida and I all want to be there!

Colette Wilson, Ingleside, CA

Editor’s Note: Colette is one of the attorneys who worked so diligently to expose the perjured testimony of witnesses in the NOW v. Scheidler trial.

Hi Mr. Scheidler!

This is Diane Wachel with the Coalition for Life in Bryan, Texas. (You spoke at our 2001 Benefit.) Just wanted to tell you congratulations on the case! You’ve been in my prayers! What an amazing testimony of God’s Grace and Goodness and the intercession of Our Lady. God bless you!

What does this mean for organizations like Operation Rescue? Could they continue similar efforts as in the 80’s?Sincerely yours for Life,

Diane Wachel,Bryan, TX

Editor’s Note: Technically the Operation Rescue that was originally sued no longer exists. It was a d/b/a of Randall Terry who settled out of the case in 1998. The new Rescue movement is engaged in newer and more innovative projects to raise awareness and save lives.

Ann and Joe,

We too are thrilled by this outcome and glad to see this long ordeal is over for you, Joe and the others. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to carry the torch for you on this.

Alan Untereiner, Washington, DC

Editor’s Note: Alan is the attorney who wrote the brief that resulted in certiorari from the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hello Ann and Joe,

I was delighted to hear about the recent Supreme Court ruling in NOW v Scheidler. I want you two to know that I have been avidly reading all the newspaper articles about the case, editorials and what not. I am very impressed and very proud. I have seen both of your names mentioned and both of your quotes again and again, and it will never cease to be thrilling to see my aunt’s house on the back page of the Tribune, and a picture of uncle Joe in a paper with a circulation well into the millions. I wish you both the best of strength and endurance in the good fight. Your nephew,

Mike Theisen,University of Illinois, Urbana, IL

Dear Joe,

What a wonderful victory we achieved yesterday at the Supreme Court! All our prayers were answered. I cried when I heard the news on Tom Brokaw’s evening news, but why weren’t you interviewed instead of Kate Michaelman and that other pro-abortion woman? You were the defendant and the victor. I know the answer to my question. God bless you all,

Jean Buckalew,Newton Square, PA
Dear Joe,

Bravo to your talk at the ICL prayer breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 22! What an inspiration! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m already looking forward to the Face the Truth Tour this summer! Bring it and the hot weather on! Thank you for your inspiration.

Jim and Anne Kish,Westmont, IL
Dear Mr. Scheidler,

You are correct in your letter of January 20 wherein you describe the miracles that are wrought through prayer. St. John Vianny, the Curé of Ars, was wont to say, "I know a man who can make God say ‘Yes,’ and that is the man who prays!"

We had a pro-life Rosary procession in Cincinnati in reparation for 30 years of “legalized” abortion in our country. We also pray that many more babies are saved through your gallant efforts.May God bless you,

Bernie Kunkel,Walton, KY
Joe,

My nephew gave me some money for Christmas. I want to share some of it with you for your wonderful work. I love reading your letters. My prayers are more abundant than the money I can give.

May Our Dear Lord and His Blessed Mother help you to continue your good work. Miracles are happening every day. I believe in miracles.Sincerely in Jesus and Mary,

Sister Mary Victor Rogers,Maple Mount, KY

Joe,

My prayers are with you. God bless you. You inspire and encourage me. I go to the local abortion mill every Friday (three of us meet regularly there). But it is easy to feel like a freak sometimes. Thank you for all that you do.

To the Scheidlers:

I was about to show the Face the Truth video to the folks from Vida Humana Internacional in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, when Joan Bermudez walked up to me and said, “Isn’t that great news about Joe Scheidler!”I said, “What news?” And she told me.Well done and Congratulations!

Bob Newman, Pittsburgh, PA

Editor’s Note: Bob heads the Face the Truth project in the Pittsburgh area. He was visiting Puerto Rico for both family and pro-life purposes.

Dear Joe,

We at Ocean County Right to Life in New Jersey send our heartiest congratulations on your victory at the high court.

This is truly a miracle of prayer. Of course, with St. Joseph as your patron, how could you go wrong! Along with our prayers of thanksgiving, we’re praying for that ultimate miracle; complete destruction of Roe v. Wade itself. With prayerful best wishes,

Joe,

Just a quick note to say congratulations. I read the article and I am very happy for all pro-lifers in the US. Hope to see you back in Ireland where we may discuss it over a pint or two. God Bless.Regards,

Joseph Kearney,Ireland
Joe,

This is the second best news we could hear from the Supreme Court. The best news of course would be that they decided it is wrong to kill unborn babies and that those who do should be the ones before the court.

It is however a very long awaited decision and your dedication and stubborn stick to it attitude are an inspiration to us all. Just wanted to let you know how much we are inspired by you. Thank you and may God bless you and your family. One question I have not seen answered is that of costs in this case. How does that work in the USA? Are the NOW people liabel for your costs? For Life

John Hof,Campaign Life Coalition BC, Langley, BC Canada

Editor’s Note: The League’s attorneys are investigating the matter of recovery of costs. We will be able to give our readers better information in a future issue of Action News.
