$2 Million Settlement Reached in Woman’s Death Following Abortion at Planned Parenthood

Settlement order from Tonya Reaves lawsuitOn July 20, 2012, 24-year old Tonya Reaves had a second trimester abortion at the Near North Planned Parenthood facility in Chicago.

Following the abortion, she experienced a series of complications, but Planned Parenthood did not call 911 to get help for her.  Five and a half hours later, she was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

A few hours later, Tonya was dead.

Just last week it was revealed [PDF] that Planned Parenthood and the other defendants in the case are on the hook for a $2 million wrongful death settlement in the lawsuit brought by Alvin Jones, the father of Reaves’ only heir, her son, who is also named Alvin after his father.

Pro-Life Action League executive director Eric Scheidler commented:

Reading this settlement, I was struck by the impact it will have on young Alvin Jones when he starts receiving money on his 18th birthday. He will have grown up without a mother, not just because Planned Parenthood killed her, but because she chose to walk through those doors on July 20, 2012 to have his baby brother or sister aborted.

I wonder how he will feel about that, grieving for the mother he never knew, the mother he lost when she died in the very act of refusing to be the mother of another child. And now he’s getting a monthly check because of that death.

We need to pray for this little boy — and keep praying as he grows into the young man who will one day have to reckon with such a sad family history.
