Huge Crowd Protests in the Rain Outside Abortionist Cheryl Chastine’s Family Practice Office

Protest of Cheryl Chastine's officeA crowd of 60 pro-life activists assembled Wednesday in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park to protest outside Total Wellness Inc.—the family practice office of Dr. Cheryl Chastine, the new owner of the South Wind Women’s Center abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas.

As with the first protest we organized outside Chastine’s office last month, it rained for much of the 90 minutes we were out there, but once again, rather than packing up and going home, our group of stalwart pro-life activists—that included many first-timers, as well as many others who took time off of work to be there—maintained their posts, undaunted.

The sidewalks in front of Chastine’s office and across the street were lined with protesters holding “Stop Abortion Now” signs or arrow-shaped signs saying simply “Abortionist”. Others held signs they had made themselves, the most creative of which read, “Total Wellness for the Unborn”.

League executive director Eric Scheidler had this to say about the ongoing protest efforts at Total Wellness:

Dr. Cheryl Chastine revealed to Operation Rescue’s Troy Newman that she wanted to remain anonymous. But today’s protest drew more people than our first one last month, in the middle of a work day with heavy rain. So much for Dr. Chastine remaining ‘anonymous’.

But Dr. Chastine can bring an end to the escalating protests by saying no the abortion cartel and quitting her job as the Wichita abortionist.

Several pro-lifers also held large graphic images of aborted babies, along with the message “Abortion is not health care,” a sine qua non for any protest of an abortionist’s private office. Still others distributed flyers to patients on their way into Total Wellness, as well as other passersby, encouraging them to tell Dr. Chastine to get out of the abortion industry.

The protest itself ran smoothly, but we were a bit perplexed that one of the Oak Park police officers on hand for the demonstration approached all of our protesters individually and took their picture with his iPhone.  When questioned as to what he was doing, the officer responded that he had orders to take everyone’s picture.

It was great to see many new faces among the protesters as well. Many introduced themselves noting that they had been receiving Eric Scheidler’s e-mail updates but were attending a pro-life event for the very first time. The excitement of new recruits made the spirit of the protest all the more bracing.

At the conclusion of the protest, Pro-Life Action League Executive Director Eric Scheidler reminded everyone that the fantastic turnout for this protest—in the middle of a workday, and in the rain—proves once again that Chicago is “Ground Zero” for pro-life activism.
