Pro-Aborts “Protect” Albany Abortion Mill

We received an email last week that a group of pro-abortion activists were planning to “defend” the Albany Medical/Surgical abortion facility in Chicago on Saturday, October 9th from the 40 Days for Life campaign. So I made plans to be there on Saturday to keep an eye on things.

The 1,000 Foot Bubble

Not long after I arrived, someone told me that the police had arrived. I walked around the corner to see what was happening and overheard a woman say to her friend, “They’re supposed to stand 1,000 feet away from the entrance, aren’t they? I called the police on them.”

The eight foot bubble within the 50 foot bubble that we have is bad enough—but 1,000 feet is longer than three football fields! If we couldn’t stand within 1,000 feet of any medical facility in Chicago, we’d have to leave the city! That woman must have no concept of distance.

I walked to the sidewalk counselors standing by the door and they said the officer had said something that sounded like he agreed with this “1,000 foot bubble” before walking into the clinic. When he came out, though, the only thing he told pro-lifers was to remember to not block the entrances. I guess even the pro-aborts in the clinic knew they could never defend a 1,000 foot bubble as constitutional!

The clinic parking lot was especially deserted this Saturday, with only a few cars in the lot--and those mostly belonging to staff.

Pro-Lifers Massively Outnumber Pro-Aborts

I always find it ironic—and counterproductive from the pro-aborts’ view—that when they show up to “defend” the clinic:

There were so many pro-lifers that they gathered into two groups to pray.
There were so many pro-lifers that they gathered into two groups to pray.

1) there is no one to “defend” it against—it’s not like we’re blocking entrances or trying to break into the building. Most of the 40 Days for Life group sit on the parkway praying and not speaking to anyone beyond the prayer group; and

2) there are always fewer clients at the clinic on those days—likely because they don’t want to get in the middle of what appears to be an ongoing conflict.

I hope those six pro-abortion women show up again next week—and that the 30 pro-lifers are also there again. It’s got to be bad for the abortionist’s business and good for saving babies!
