Preparing for the Dobbs Ruling

The United States Supreme Court is expected to issue their ruling in the huge Dobbs v. Jackson case by the end of June. The entire pro-life movement is preparing for that day, including the frontline, grassroots wing of the movement — all of us who witness at abortion facilities, hold pro-life prayer vigils, host anti-abortion demonstrations, and make our voices heard in the public square.

How do you think the Supreme Court will rule in the Dobbs v. Jackson case?

The case of Dobbs v. Jackson involves a Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks. Which of these five possible outcomes do you think is the most likely?

The Supreme Court will once again reaffirm Roe v. Wade, and will strike down the 15-week abortion ban in Mississippi.

The Supreme Court will uphold the Mississippi 15-week abortion ban but go no further, drawing a new line at 15 weeks for when states may limit abortion.

The Supreme Court will not explicitly overturn Roe v. Wade, but will invite states to enact stricter limits on abortion, including measures that go further than Mississippi’s 15-week ban.

The Supreme Court will explicitly overturn Roe v. Wade, allowing each state to adopt its own abortion policy, up to and including a total ban on abortion.

The Supreme Court will not only overturn Roe v. Wade, but will find abortion to be unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment and strike down all laws allowing abortion in the U.S.

When should we take public action once the Dobbs ruling comes down?

Most grassroots pro-life leaders like you have said they think it’s important we mount a nationwide public response when the Dobbs ruling is released, either celebrating or denouncing it. Which of the following best expresses your opinion on the timing of our response?

We must respond on the SAME DAY as the ruling. That’s when the media will be paying the most attention, and our opponents are sure to take to the streets that day. We need to be ready to make our public response then, too.

We should respond the DAY AFTER the ruling. The media coverage may not be as good, but we need 24 hours to prepare our best public response.

We should respond the NEXT WEEK after the ruling. A response with in 24 hours of the ruling is impractical, even if we have to risk not getting much interest from the media.
