The Pro-Life Action League and several of its employees are among a group suing Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, and acting director of the Illinois Department of Insurance Ann Gillespie over the state’s mandate requiring Illinois-based insurers to cover abortion. The suit was filed yesterday, November 20, in Federal District Court.
The mandate forces organizations like the League to choose between abandoning the provision of insurance to our employees or financially supporting abortion in direct contradiction to our organizational mission.
The League provides this statement from our president Ann Scheidler:
J.B. Pritzker and our legislators in Springfield have ridden a wave of abortion extremism and imposed some of the most pro-abortion policies in the country on our state. They may have thought they were acting in step with the will of the people, but the recent election proves that abortion access is not the central issue they thought it was to most Americans. Most Americans want common-sense limits on abortion and certainly don’t want to be forced to pay for it. Perhaps our lawsuit will be the wakeup call they need to bring them back to sane abortion policy in our state.
