CHICAGO, June 24, 2022 — Pro-life advocates will gather at 1:00 p.m. today for a rally to celebrate the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. The ruling, released today, overturns the 1973 case Roe v. Wade, which swept away state laws protecting the lives of unborn children, and doomed more than 60 million of them to the violence of abortion. Under the new Dobbs ruling, abortion policy will be set by the citizens of each state through their elected representatives. The Rally at Federal Plaza is one of more than 100 such rallies being organized throughout the country today by the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League.
“Today we celebrate, but tomorrow our work really begins,” said Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League. “Are we willing to do what it takes to create the conditions in which every family will thrive, in which every mother and child will truly be safe from abortion? That’s the question we all need to answer honestly, both pro-life and pro-choice. My answer is an emphatic YES.”
Scheidler expressed his gratification at the role the Pro-Life Action League and the “activist wing” of the pro-life movement played in bringing about today’s victory. “For nearly 50 years, we’ve kept abortion on the front page,” Scheidler said. “We’ve never let America forget about the violence being done to unborn children. We’ve never let the American conscience become comfortable with abortion. Today we see the impact of such diligence.”

Scheidler continued: “Until today, the United States was one of only a handful of countries—including China and North Korea—to allow abortion on demand, for any reason or no reason, through all of pregnancy. Sadly, that State of Illinois remains in that shameful company. But we’ll be working to change that.”
Scheidler noted that the Mississippi law just upheld in the Dobbs ruling limits elective abortion to 15 weeks, which actually makes it more permissive than the laws of nearly every European country. “No woman should ever be told—like J.B. Pritzker and Lori Lightfoot are telling her—that she must abort her own child as a condition for achieving her dreams,” he said. “We’re eager to create a new future in Illinois, in which every unborn child is welcomed and every family is supported by the community.”
