Pro-Life Action League to Protest Planned Parenthood Gala in Chicago
CHICAGO, May 11, 2022 — Pro-life advocates will hold an “Overturn Roe” rally outside the Radisson Blu Aqua hotel on Thursday, May 12, when Planned Parenthood holds a fundraising gala there. The rally comes in thick of a national controversy over a leaked majority opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson abortion case that shows the Supreme Court voting to overturn Roe v. Wade and allow states to enact greater limits on abortion. The Dobbs case deals with a 15-week abortion ban enacted in Mississippi and blocked by the federal district court.
“Illinois has become a destination state for abortion,” said Eric J. Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League, who is organizing the rally, “and Planned Parenthood is right at the center of this transformation.” Scheidler notes that in recent years Planned Parenthood has built huge abortion facilities in Illinois near the borders of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Missouri.
“The Supreme Court appears poised to allow states to scale back the extreme abortion license imposed by Roe v. Wade—like Mississippi is trying to do, with their 15-week abortion ban, which would bring that state in line with countries like Italy and France,” said Scheidler. “Yet here in Illinois, our the General Assembly and Governor Pritzker have swept away every remaining limit on abortion. We’re the only state ever to repeal a parental notice of abortion law!”
Scheidler said the rally on Thursday will highlight how this expansion of abortion in Illinois is out of step with the views of most Illinois voters, especially on the issue of parental notice.
What: “Overturn Roe” Rally at Planned Parenthood Abortion Gala
When: Thursday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. CT
Where: Radisson Blu Aqua, 211 N. Columbus Drive in Chicago
Who: Pro-Life Action League and concerned citizens
“The overturning of Roe v. Wade won’t have any direct impact on abortion policy in Illinois,” Scheidler noted, “but it will have a huge impact on our state, as J.B. Pritzker and Lori Lightfoot urge women to come here for abortions. I’m urging my fellow Illinoisans to join me working to roll back the pro-abortion extremism here in Illinois and make this state safe for unborn children and their mothers.”
