Prominent Illinois Politicians See the Victims of Abortion at Swanky Planned Parenthood Gala

It’s become a tradition for the Pro-Life Action League to protest Planned Parenthood Illinois Action’s annual fundraising event celebrating Roe v. Wade. And as soon as we found out that this year’s event would be held on January 21, we immediately made plans to keep that tradition going.

Two dozen hearty pro-life activists joined us last night at City Winery in Chicago to bring a simple message to Planned Parenthood’s supporters: Abortion is nothing to celebrate.

We first set up an LED sign that says, “Abortion takes human life,” along with a 5′ x 9′ banner depicting an abortion victim on the sidewalk directly in front of the front door so that everyone entering would see exactly what it is that they’re supporting.

Orange-vested volunteer escorts with the Illinois Choice Action Team were also on hand, offering to accompany attendees through what one of them referred to as our “circus” — i.e., the sidewalk leading up to the front door, alongside of which were more volunteers holding more pictures of abortion victims as well as signs reading, “Planned Parenthood lies to you.”

planned parenthood protest in chicagoPlanned Parenthood Illinois Action is a political action committee, meaning, of course, that they help bankroll several of the state’s high-profile “pro-choice” politicians, who are then expected to return the favor by showing up at events like this to hobnob with Planned Parenthood’s supporters.

It’s no surprise, then, that we were able to reach the likes of Cong. Jan Schakowsky, Cong. Tammy Duckworth, Cong. Mike Quigley, Cong. Luis Gutierrez, and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, all of whom, after seeing our signs, proceeded to make their way inside as quickly as possible.

We were grateful to encounter no problems with the numerous Chicago police officers on hand at the event — a marked change from our protest of Planned Parenthood’s gala celebration at Navy Pier in April last year, when Pro-Life Action League director Eric Scheidler was arrested on bogus trespassing charges.

Our deepest thanks go out to everyone who took part in the protest!
