A crack team of pro-life activists came to Chicago’s western suburbs September 24 to take part in a Pro-Life Action League sponsored “Face the Truth” Day.

Joining some of our longtime stalwart volunteers were two first-timers, including one fellow from Texas who was visiting family in central Illinois and drove over 100 miles to be there!

Our first site was the high-traffic intersection of North Avenue and First Avenue in Melrose Park, which allowed us to show the victims of abortion to thousands of passing motorists.

Full Cooperation from Cook County Forest Preserve Police

We then moved on to the even busier intersection of First Avenue and Roosevelt Road in Forest Park/Maywood.  At one corner of this intersection is a park managed by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPDCC), and when we last visited this site during this year’s weeklong summer Truth Tour, we were threatened with arrest by a forest preserve police officer, who told us that demonstrations are not allowed on forest preserve property.

At the time, we opted to maintain our position until the end of our scheduled time but then exited the forest preserve property quickly once we wrapped up.

Convinced that the officer we encountered that day was woefully misinformed, we asked our attorneys at the Thomas More Society Pro-Life Law Center to look into the matter.  In the meantime, we made plans to return to the site and exercise our First Amendment rights there once again.

After TMS attorneys found nothing in the FPDCC municipal codes prohibiting demonstrations, they sent a letter on our behalf to the Forest Preserve’s legal department notifying them of our planned Face the Truth Day, to which the latter replied that we would have no problems from their police officers this time around.

And indeed, we didn’t.

High School Students See the Truth about Abortion

Proviso Math and Science Academy is across the street from the forest preserve, so in addition to reaching thousands of motorists, we were also able to show the victims of abortion to hundreds of high school students, many of whom were eager to engage in conversation.

So much for the notion that high school teens are “too young” or “not ready” to see such pictures.

The schedule for this year’s remaining Face the Truth Days will be posted soon.  Watch this space.
