Tonya Reaves, victim of legal abortion
Documents released this week have offered some additional details on the death of Tonya Reaves, the 24-year old woman who died following a severely botched abortion at Planned Parenthood’s Loop Health Center in Chicago on Friday, July 20.
Steve Miller of CBS Radio affiliate WBBM reports that Reaves underwent a dilation and evacuation (D & E) abortion at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
Following the abortion, she experienced bleeding, but it wasn’t until 4:30 p.m. — five and a half hours later — that she was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The CBS report continues:
Then at 5:30 p.m., doctors performed an ultrasound, and another dilation and evacuation procedure – basically, another abortion – this time at Northwestern.
But after that, there were then more problems, and pain. That warranted a new ultrasound, and a perforation was discovered.
At 10:12 p.m., Reaves was taken back to surgery – and “an uncontrollable bleed was discovered,” documents say.
Reaves was pronounced dead just in the operating room just over an hour later, at 11:20 p.m.
According to its website, the Loop Health Center only does medical abortions — not surgical abortions. Yet a D & E is without a doubt a surgical abortion.
Clearly, Planned Parenthood has a lot of explaining to do.
League Calls on Illinois Legislature to Tighten Abortion Restrictions
Numerous abortion facilities in Illinois — including all of those operated by Planned Parenthood — are not inspected by the state’s Department of Public Health. This lack of oversight is unconscionable.
Today, the Pro-Life Action League joined Pastor Ceasar LeFlore, Midwest Director of the Life, Education, and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.), in issuing a letter calling on the leaders of the Illinois General Assembly to immediately enact laws and policies that insure the protection of women.
The letter can be read here [PDF].
