Tribute to Father of Pro-Life Activism: Joe Scheidler

Chicago—On Saturday, April 2, hundreds of pro-lifers and more than two dozen leaders from all over the country will gather in Chicago to honor Pro-life Action League founder and president, Joseph Scheidler. This Evening of Tribute to Joe Scheidler is sponsored by Citizens for a Pro-life Society, and 30 additional pro-life organizations.

Scheidler is known as the father of pro-life activism who, beginning in the early 1970s, infused the pro-life movement with a bold, creative, no-nonsense approach to ending the injustice of abortion. His leadership style defined the meaning of pro-life direct action.

Scheidler has inspired generations of pro-life activists, and paved the way for opponents of abortion to be bold about their fight for life. He has spoken around the country and the world, authored the book Closed: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion, and produced videos featuring former abortionists who are now telling the truth about what goes on in abortion clinics.

In his fight for the unborn, Scheidler has gone all the way to the US Supreme Court to defend his beliefs, and has worked with a variety of people, from President Reagan and Pope John Paul II to the sidewalk counselors who are the unsung heroes of the pro-life movement. Scheidler has helped numerous people who don’t want to remain silent about their opposition to abortion.

“I organized this Tribute to Joe because he has helped me and many others to take action to end the injustice of abortion. He has been a total inspiration for us, and it’s important to recognize that,” said Monica Miller, Ph.D., Director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.

“I grew up watching my father make tremendous sacrifices to defend the human dignity of children in the womb,” said Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League and the oldest of Joe Scheidler’s seven children. “My admiration for him has grown in the eight years my father and I have been working together in the fight to end abortion, and I am deeply gratified to see him being honored with this special tribute.”

The Tribute will on Saturday, April 2 from 6:00 PM, at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza Hotel, 350 West Mart Center Drive, in Chicago. For more information, go to www.joescheidlertribute.com. The event is open to the public.
