Joe Scheidler prays at a pro-life displayToday in League HistoryApril 4, 1992—In protest of a feminist march on the National Mall in Washington DC, the American Coalition for Life sets up 2,200 crosses to represent the number of female babies aborted daily. The League sets up 109 tombstones to represent the maternal deaths from legal abortion. League staff member Tommie Romano is surrounded by angry pro-aborts, but manages to fend off her attackers. League Director Joe Scheidler is thrown to the ground and kicked. A friend pulls Joe to his feet and calls for police assistance. Joe suffers only minor injuries from the assault.
