April 3, 1992—League Director Joe Scheidler presents 250,000 petitions against the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) to Congress at a press conference of national pro-life leaders in Washington, DC. FOCA would have ensured that abortion remain legal throughout the United States in the event that Roe v. Wade were ever overturned. Pro-life pressure and the take-over of the U.S. House of Representatives in the election of 1994 would prevent the enactment of FOCA during the administration of pro-abortion President Bill Clinton.
