December 6, 1999—League staff members join the Chicago Nativity Scene Committee —informally known as the “The God Squad” — at a press conference held at Daley Plaza, alerting the media to the recent theft of the statue of the Infant Jesus from the Nativity scene the committee had erected in the plaza. The next day, the statue is recovered and replaced in the crèche.
