November 7, 1989—League Director Joe Scheidler files a defamation suit against the National Organization of Women (NOW), NOW President Molly Yard and NOW Vice President Patricia Ireland (pictured left) for calling him an arsonist and abortion clinic bomber at a press conference. The suit would survive NOW’s motion to dismiss before Judge Paul Edward Plunkett, but then the judge would inexplicably reverse himself and dismiss the case, a ruling the League would be unable to appeal with all legal resoures focused on the NOW v. Scheidler case.
