Barack ObamaToday in League HistoryOctober 24, 2005—Illinois Senator Barack Obama, speaking at a Girls, Inc. event in Omaha, Nebraska, denounces the League-sponsored campaign to get the American Girl doll company to sever ties with Girls, Inc., which supports abortion. “It’s just silly,” Obama says. “This is a classic example of overreaction and a lack of proportion.” Obama would later attack another League effort, lending his support to Planned Parenthood in 2007 when the League was leading efforts to prevent the opening of their abortuary in Aurora, Illinois.
