August 15, 1994—The League coordinates the third annual National Day of Rescue. Eighty pro-life groups participate with the goal of stopping all abortions scheduled that day nationwide. The first National Day of Rescue drew national media attention when abortion advocates claimed the event would be violent; instead, reporters taped pro-lifers singing, holding flags, and wearing pink and blue armbands. This year’s rescue drew 135 protesters at the Michigan Avenue Medical Center in Chicago. Two pro-lifers were sprayed in the face with a disabling chemical and were rushed to the hospital.
