Fr. Joe LooneyToday in League HistoryJune 18, 1999—League Director Joe Scheidler speaks on the contraception-abortion link in Waterbury, Connecticut, at the invitation Fr. Joe Looney, famous in pro-life circles for his “condom roasts.” The event is in honor of the 60th anniversary of Planned Parenthood’s being run out of Waterbury and, subsequently, all of Connecticut. Participants reenact the 1939 march to the Chase Dispensary that helped push the American Birth Control League, as Planned Parenthood was then known, out of the state.
