Abortion In The Nation’s Capital

The next abortion battle in Congress is heating up. This one is over the Hyde Amendment and other similar riders that attach to appropriations bills. Two representatives, Democrat Heath Shuler and Republican Jim Jordan, are collecting signatures from their colleagues showing their support for these riders.

Reducing Abortions With Hyde Amendment

The Hyde Amendment, introduced by Cong. Henry Hyde, Republican from Illinois, back in the late 70’s, prohibits federal money from being used to pay for abortions. It has been credited with vastly lowering abortion rates throughout the country.

While Barack Obama should put his money where his mouth is in claiming all through his candidacy that he wants to work to reduce the number of abortions, if he signs legislation that deletes these pro-life riders from the Federal Budget he will be increasing the number of abortions performed every year.

Yet through tossing out the Mexico City Policy his second day in office, Obama has already sent our tax dollars out across the Globe to pay for foreign abortions. We can hope and pray that this legislation will not make it to his desk, what with all the other problems that are harassing him during his first months as President. We must also pray that Congress will maintain all abortion restrictions and urge them to make abortion as rare as possible. Send your representatives letters and e-mails and call them often.

Red Envelope Campaign

Some clever and innovative pro-lifers have launched an interesting program called the Red Envelope Campaign. They want all pro-lifers across the nation to send red envelopes to President Obama in the White House, reminding him that abortion destroys a human life.

The message you are to write on the back of an empty, sealed red envelope is simply something like: “This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.”

You address it to President Barack Obama, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.; Washington DC 20500.

From all reports these red envelopes are flooding the White House mailbox. While Obama may never see these red envelopes, he will surely hear about them, and if the folks who lunched the campaign have their way, there will be 50 million red envelopes sent to represent the 50 million babies that have been murdered through abortion in this country since 1973. Tell your friends about it.

Fear Not

If you only watch the secular pro-abortion TV news and talk shows, and if you only read the secular media, you could be somewhat discouraged at the way our country is falling apart. But remember all the encouraging words spoken over the years about gold being tried in the fire, when the going gets tough the tough get going, and such like, but especially important is recalling the powerful words of spiritual encouragement such as Christ’s constantly telling his followers to “Fear Not: I am with you, always, even to the consummation of the world,” and good Pope John Paul II telling us , “Be not afraid.”

Lots of good things hare happening, including the wide and enthusiastic success of our pocket handbook, Sharing the Pro-Life Message. Of which the first ten thousand have already been sent all across the nation, and another 30,000 are being prepared. Also, babies are being saved every day by counselors outside abortion mills and beginning soon 120 cities will be hosting a new 40 Days for Life prayer vigils. Pro-Life activism is alive and well, and it will save the nation.
