Sarah’s Law

This November in California, voters will have the chance to pass Sarah’s Law, which would require parental notification if a minor girl under the age of 18 wants an abortion. The vast majority of Americans support parental notification laws—even many who call themselves “pro-choice”—and states that have passed these laws have seen a reduction in abortions among minor girls [PDF]. Christina at Real Choice summed it up:

If it’s about “choice”, there’s no excuse for anybody — except sexual predators and people who profit from sexual abuse of underage girls — to oppose Sarah’s Law.

A group called Friends of Sarah is sponsoring a YouTube video contest to promote Sarah’s Law. Details are available here. The first entry has already been submitted: (If you’re wondering “Who is Sarah?”, you can find out here.)
