Life Imitating “Art”

A new study confirms what common sense already told us:

Sexually charged music, magazines, TV and movies push youngsters into intercourse at an earlier age, perhaps by acting as kind of virtual peer that tells them everyone else is doing it, a study said Monday.

Blogger Mark Shea‘s razor-sharp analytical skills don’t disappoint in his 26-word post on the study:

Science Discovers that a Culture Which Despises Virginity Despises Children In other news, science figures out that water is wet and the sun is quite bright.

This is not the first time Mark has made this comparison between contempt for virginity and contempt for children. The first time I read it, I felt as if I had the found the missing 1000th piece of a puzzle after having left the other 999 assembled but unattended for several days. Mark’s spot-on observation illustrates why the pro-life position must include opposition to contraception and all forms of extramarital sex. Conversely, it also illustrates why we as pro-lifers must seek to cultivate the virtues of purity, modesty, and chastity — beginning with ourselves and within our own families.
