Alito Confirmed

Samuel Alito is the newest Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court. This is a victory for pro-lifers, as he replaces pro-abortion Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Alito was confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday, January 31 by a vote of 58-42. Having Justice Alito on the Supreme Court is especially important now, considering that on the same day he was sworn in, two federal appeals courts issued rulings declaring that the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, which President Bush signed into law in 2003, was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court may well take up the issue of partial-birth abortion later this year. LifeNews.com has more on the Alito confirmation here, and more on the appeals courts’ decisions here.
