Director on the Road

The Supreme Court on December 4 heard oral arguments in my appeal of the RICO judgement in NOW v. Scheidler. Our appearance before the court went well, and now we wait for the justices to hand down their decision. Please redouble your prayers for a victory in my appeal.

Tom's River, NJ Memorial

Pro-Lifers commemorate the burial of 100 unborn children in Tom’s River, NJ, Sept. 15

While I have been fighting this case for more than sixteen years, I have never let that keep me from speaking out for unborn children and encouraging others to become active in pro-life.

On September 15 I helped a group of New Jersey pro-lifers commemorate the burial of 100 aborted babies eighteen years ago in Ocean County Memorial Park in Tom’s River. Every year since 1985, pro-lifers have placed a wreath of 100 white roses on the grave of these babies, who were found in a dumpster behind an abortion mill. Dr. Richard Miranti, Austin Ruse and I offered our reflections at the grave.

Joe and Ann with Dave Wemhoff in South Bend

Ann and Joe Scheidler with Dave Wemhoff at Sacred Heart Parish in South Bend, IN, Sept. 16

Dave Wemhoff of St. Joseph County Right to Life invited Ann and me and attorney Tom Brejcha to speak at Sacred Heart Parish in South Bend, IN September 16. We discussed the RICO case, Face the Truth and sidewalk counseling. We visited an abortion clinic and crisis pregnancy center while in South Bend.

On the first weekend in October, I visited Wichita, KS as a guest of Kansans for Life and Troy Newman of Operation Rescue West. I spoke to more than 1000 students at Catholic high schools on Friday, joined a protest and prayer service outside the abortion mill of abortionist George Tiller and spoke at the Word of Life Church on Saturday, and addressed the congregation of Heartland Church on Sunday.

Director addressing Bishop Carroll High School assembly in Wichita, Oct. 4

On October 12 I spoke on action at the Catholic Medical Association meeting in Chicago and heard some outstanding talks by Dr. Eugene Diamond, Bishop Jerry Listecki, Jill Stanec, Elaine Kindler, and Dr. Byron Calhoun. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia addressed the CMA banquet.

Ralph Cortas

Scheidler’s fellow seminarian, Ralph Cortas

On October 20 I addressed the men’s club at St. Mary’s Church in Bristol, Indiana. I was invited by Tim Rushenberg, and was delighted to run into my fellow seminarian buddy Ralph Cortas and his wife Pat, both leaders in the local church.

League volunteer Elizabeth Lewis was my host November 2 for a talk to the Third Order Franciscans at St. Peter’s Church in downtown Chicago. This talk has become an annual event. About fifty attended.

Earlier this month I was in Denton, TX for a taping of Mark Crutcher’s Life Talk pro-life television program. Life Talk is broadcast throughout the country on various cable channels. Check your local listings for my appearance in January 2003.
