The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to scrap all federal funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, which was responsible for the deaths of over 320,000 unborn babies last year alone.
The final tally on the vote was a resounding 240-185, with 10 Democrats joining all but 7 Republicans in favor of defunding the Wal-Mart of the Abortion Industry.
League staffer Matt Yonke wrote earlier this week about how Planned Parenthood is against the ropes and is pulling out all the stops in a desperate attempt to save face — not to mention the one third of their annual budget that comes from your tax dollars.
Just minutes after the House vote, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards wasted no time in ramping up the breathless demagoguery, sending out an e-mail to their supporters, calling the vote “the most dangerous assault on women’s health in our history” — and, what’s more, “cruel,” “unconscionable,” and “unthinkable.”
This from the president of the organization whose employees have repeatedly shown a willingness to aid and abet child sex trafficking.
And this from the president of the organization that is responsible for ending the lives of over 320,000 children every year in a most “cruel, unconscionable, unthinkable” manner.
And she expects to be taken seriously?
UPDATE 2/3/11: Join the special webcast tonight with Lila Rose and other pro-life leaders at 8:30 p.m. EST (7:30 p.m. CST, 5:30 PST). Help expose and defund Planned Parenthood here!
With today’s release of yet another Live Action video sting of Planned Parenthood—this one the most damning yet—one must ask: Why does Planned Parenthood keep getting caught?
For over two years now, Lila Rose and Live Action have been conducting these undercover operations. They’ve caught trained Planned Parenthood staff counseling what they believe to be underage girls in how to avoid mandated reporting of statutory rape, and how to circumvent parental involvement laws.
It’s been rumored that pictures of Lila Rose—the dynamic young woman behind this string of disturbing exposés—have been posted at Planned Parenthood offices around the country.
Planned Parenthood knows Lila Rose is after them. So why don’t they clean up their act? Why don’t they ensure that no employee, ever, says the kinds of things they keep saying on these undercover videos? [Continue reading ...]
Pro-lifers protest Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards in Cedar Rapids, May 20 [Photo by Sam Scheidler]
On May 20, the Pro-Life Action League coordinated more than 150 pro-life activists from across Iowa and the Midwest in protesting an appearance by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards in Cedar Rapids. The event was billed as a 30th anniversary celebration for Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa—and we were there to deliver the message that abortion is nothing to celebrate.
The protest was a tremendous success, with great turnout and fantastic media coverage. The entire event was a testament to what pro-life activists can accomplish with careful planning and a healthy dose of divine grace.
I first learned about Cecile Richards’ scheduled appearance—and the protest being planned by Dubuque County Right to Life—from a post by Jill Stanek on her pro-life blog. Given my history with Richards, I was eager to take part, so I reached out to my colleague Steve Brody, executive director of Dubuque Country Right to Life, who graciously accepted my offer to help “welcome” Richards to Iowa. On May 20, the Pro-Life Action League will join pro-life leaders and activists in Iowa to protest an appearance by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards.
This is the same Cecile Richards who once called the pro-lifers who were opposing the opening of the huge Aurora, Illinois abortuary “some of the ugliest anti-choice protesters we’ve ever seen.”
Moms and dads with kids in strollers, grandmothers with their Rosary beads, high-school teens rallying on behalf of their unborn brothers and sisters—that’s what Cecile Richards calls “ugly.”
What I call ugly is the kind of gala celebration of abortion that brings Richards to Cedar Rapids next week. It’s the “Planning is Power” 30th anniversary of Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa (PPECI) at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.
