On Friday, October 1st, 60 pro-lifers gathered in the vacant lot across from Planned Parenthood’s “Abortion Fortress” in Aurora, Illinois for solemn candlelight vigil marking the third anniversary since the facility’s opening in 2007 under a cloud of controversy.

Pastor Jeff Moore of Aurora’s First Presbyterian Church led the group in an ecumenical prayer service. First Pres is one of the pillars of the pro-life ministry at Planned Parenthood, and Pastor Moore drafted the Clergy for Life statement published in local papers in 2007.

By His Amazing Grace

And interesting moment—and a sign of how the Holy Spirit is at work in the Fox Valley—came when the driver of a passing car called out “Love babies! Love babies!” right at the moment we were praying the following lines: [Continue reading ...]

Why Do They Tell Us When They Choose Life?

Pro-lifers stand witness in the vacant lot across from Planned Parenthood Aurora

Late yesterday morning, while I was out at Planned Parenthood’s “Abortion Fortress” in Aurora, Illinois, a young woman came out of the building and walked across the street to tell Margo, a pro-life sidewalk counselor, that she had decided not to go through with her abortion.

I was praying a Rosary along the road behind the building, so I wasn’t there when this conversation took place, but Margo reported that the woman was “extremely happy” and “excited” about the decision to keep her baby. Margo gave her information on the nearby Waterleaf Women’s Center for any help she might need.

In the evening, I told my wife April—who had also done a prayer stint at Planned Parenthood yesterday—about the saved baby, and we got to talking about what it is that inspires a woman who decided against abortion to come over and tell us pro-lifers.

Fox Valley Pro-Lifers Show Their Stuff

Posted by Eric Scheidler (August 23, 2010 at 4:55 pm)

Monthly protest at PP Aurora, August 2010 [Photo by Sam Scheidler]The pro-life community of Illinois’ Fox Valley showed what it’s made of this past Saturday during the monthly protest at Planned Parenthood Aurora, with a strong showing of 70 activists. We’ve held this protest every third Saturday of the month since November 2007.

August can be a tough time for pro-life activism, with summer vacations, high temperatures and back-to-school responsibilities tending to dampen participation.

Fox Valley Pro-Lifers Rise to the Challenge

So I issued a challenge to Fox Valley pro-lifers to make a special effort to come out for Saturday’s protest. I e-mailed them about the great turnout at the Rockford, Illinois Face the Truth Day earlier in the month, and said I’d hate to see the Fox Valley outdone. [Continue reading ...]

What To Make of League Foe Steve Trombley’s New Job?

Steve Trombley

Steve Trombley has a new job. The former CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPI) has just moved to Vermont to take over as CEO of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE). What to make of this transfer?

It had been anticipated by many in the pro-life movement—and probably many in the pro-abortion movement, too—that Trombley would be quietly fired as CEO of what was at that time Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area, once the controversy over their Aurora mega-abortuary had died down.

Trouble for Trombley

The lies and deception surrounding Planned Parenthood’s construction of the huge facility in Aurora, Illinois under the cloak of a wholly-owned subsidiary, Gemini Office Development, drew national media attention, spawned three lawsuits and earned Aurora the dishonor of being declared “Ground Zero” in the abortion wars by pro-life and pro-abortion leaders alike. For a while it looked like the entire $7 million project might collapse. [Continue reading ...]

Wintery First Day of Spring Heightens Pro-Life Witness

PP Protest in the snow, March 20, 2010

The first day of spring was a chilly, windy, sloppy one in Aurora, Illinois, but the warmth of spring burned brightly in the hearts of the sixty activists who joined me to protest Planned Parenthood. Far from dampening turnout, the miserable weather had only inspired us all to make our monthly witness outside the “Abortion Fortress.”

Drivers passing by on New York Avenue must have been astonished to see such a determined protest going on in the high winds and driving snow. We received many complimentary honks and thumbs up. [Continue reading ...]
