Last week hackers attacked the Pro-Life Action League website, as well as all the websites hosted by the League like the Generations for Life and Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally websites.
No strangers to hostile attacks, the League’s IT team set to work locating and eradicating the source of the problem over the weekend and restored security to the sites so we could get on with our pro-life mission.
The attack couldn’t have come at a worse time as thousands were trying to access information about Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally news and locations and Rally Captains were trying to access crucial resources for planning and promoting the effort.
But all is well now and the effort will carry on undaunted. If anyone you know was disquieted by anti-virus software warnings or other error messages, please let them know that the problem has been solved and the site is now secure. And say some prayers for the protection of the League’s work going forward.
This problem may have slowed us down, but it will not stop us. We will stand up for our cherished liberties and fight to protect every human life from the evil of abortion!
A local maternity home the League has supported made the Aurora Beacon News today with its stories of hope for pregnant teens.
Maternity Homes of the Fox Valley (MHFV) opened their doors in Aurora, Illinois last September and the League was there because the project was in part a response to the League’s epic battle with Planned Parenthood over their deceptive entry into Aurora with the first of their abortion “mega-mills”.
Since then, MHFV have been making it easier for teen moms in bad situations to choose life for their babies and we’ve been privileged to partner with them.
It’s great to see MHFV getting the recognition they deserve for their work. Here’s hoping the operation continues to provide hope and alternatives for years to com. Check out their website for more details about their unique method for helping girls in need.
One of last weekend’s “Unite Women” rallies juxtaposed with one of last month’s “Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rallies
On Saturday, rallies were held to “Unite Against the War on Women”, a pretty obvious response to the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally campaign spearheaded by the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.
As the picture indicates, the response was paltry. Even in New York City, where thousands gathered on March 23 in defense of religious freedom, only a few hundred showed up to protest.
They may have had a few B-list celebrity speakers, but they were pitching their muddled message to largely empty audiences. Outside of some talk about the so-called “war on women”, their message was as scattered as could be. [Continue reading ...]
Last night, after more than two hours of public comment, the City Council of Naperville, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, voted 7-2 to approve the construction of the Naperville Fertility Clinic at Benton and Washington Streets on the north side of the city’s posh downtown.
In March, I was part of a group of concerned citizens who spoke out against both the moral and zoning related problems related to the IVF clinic, as covered by the Chicago Sun Times. We came to bring a simple message: IVF involves the freezing and destruction of human beings in the earliest stages of life, and that is not a stain that we want to see on downtown Naperville.
Dr. Randy Morris was the first to speak last night. Contrary to his claims at the previous meeting that his clinic had nothing to do with religion, Dr. Morris came with a cadre of people from the inter-religious group One Naperville, including a number of people who had undergone IVF treatments with Dr. Morris or elsewhere. The Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom was an outstanding success. So huge the media simply could not ignore the Rallies as they sometimes do with conservative events.
Rally co-chairman and Pro-Life Action League Executive Director Eric Scheidler appeared on Fox News twice in the leadup to the Rally—watch Friday’s interview below—and they covered the New York City Rally live. Eric also appeared on the Laura Ingraham Show and other major commentators like Glenn Beck covered and promoted the Rallies.
I’ve been involved in grassroots activism for years, including protests that have drawn national attention, and I’ve never seen as much secular, mainstream media coverage as the Nationwide Rally garnered. [Continue reading ...]
The ancient image of Christ Pantocrator, or “Christ, Ruler of All” reminds us that temporal powers come and go, but God is the king above all. It is well within His power to stop the Obama Administration’s pernicious HHS Mandate, and with that in mind, we are asking all people of faith to join in a united prayer effort to Stop the HHS Mandate.
Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life has composed an ecumenical Novena for the defeat of the HHS Mandate, which begins today.
A novena is a nine day prayer sequence [Continue reading ...]
Late Chicago activist Alan Nelles [Photo by Ann Scheidler]
It’s with a heavy heart that I report that longtime Chicago activist and sidewalk counselor Alan Nelles died last week of a heart attack.
It came a shock to us at the League since anyone who ever served on the streets with Alan knew how full of life he was.
Alan was one of a kind. He had a warm personality and knew all the League staff members’ families. He’d ask me at every event about my children by name even though he’d only met them a handful of times.
He had a host of eccentric hobbies, ranging from working on computers to an encyclopedic knowledge of the ’60s TV show The Avengers. [Continue reading ...]
This year’s TeenSpeak conference was a great success with two great talks by Josh Brahm of Life Report. But in a special surprise, Abby Johnson, who was giving the keynote address to the adults at the SpeakOut Illinois conference, came by to give a quick talk to the teens.
Her call to purity and to the hard work of keeping the pro-life movement going was so inspiring to the kids I thought I’d share it here.
March for Life 2012 outside the US Supreme Court building [Photo by John Jansen]
I’ve attended the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. a good number of times, but this year’s was by far the most upbeat, energetic and encouraging march I’ve been to, and the Pro-Life Action League was thrilled to be a part of it.
The crowd was enormous and excited about the coming year, as well they should be. 2011 was a banner year for the pro-life movement, and the momentum only keeps going our way.
As the march wound through the streets of the nation’s capital one could see groups from all religious traditions, all ages and races, school groups, church groups, colleges with huge banners—it was quite a show.
But there was one thing that I don’t think anyone missed—the Crusaders for Life pro-life youth group from our own St. John Cantius church here in Chicago. The giant group came equipped with chants, huge yellow “LIFE” balloons, and portable platforms where they could carry some of their cohorts above the crowd to lead chants. [Continue reading ...]
Yesterday, Pro-Life Action League Executive Director Eric Scheidler, Generations for Life’s John Jansen, myself and 150 other Chicagoans attended a meeting of the Chicago Committee on Special Events to defend free speech and public protest.
With the G8 and Nato summits coming concurrently to Chicago this spring, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has taken the opportunity to ratchet up the city’s laws governing public protest.
The legislation, which was originally proposed as a temporary measure for the summits but has since become permanent, drastically increased fines and required a permit for any gathering of people in public space. The ordinance defines a “Public Assembly”, which requires a permit, as: [Continue reading ...]
