Let Us Not Forget to Pray

Posted by Joe Scheidler (February 7, 2011 at 12:57 pm)

prayerWhat with Live Action’s last few exposés of Planned Parenthood degradation of young girls, the despicable and grisly murders of born babies by late term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, an actively pro-abortion President, our hard earned money being used to pay for abortions—well you get the idea.

“The times are out of joint,” as Hamlet said. So what can we do about it?

Jesus said that without Him we can do nothing. And something has to be done, and it has to be done through Him. So what we can all do, and must do, in these times, is pray. [Continue reading ...]

Prayers Needed for Ireland

Posted by Joe Scheidler (December 14, 2010 at 11:34 am)

League Executive Director Eric Scheidler and Bryan Kemper of Stand True protesting abortion in Dublin

Hilary White writes from Ireland that “D-day for Ireland’s pro-life laws looms: urgent prayers requested.”

The facts are even more sinister than Miss White reveals in her call for prayers. The decision this Thursday could, and will, if passed, introduce an evil we can hardly imagine. It could, for the first time ever, be a step towards establishing abortion as an internationally recognized “human right.”

Ireland has been one of only three European countries that have banned abortion, the others being Poland and the tiny Malta.

A Looming Disaster

Leading abortion opponents have seen a disaster coming for some time, ever since Ireland joined eleven other countries in the Single European Act some years ago. Of these eleven, only Belgium did not have legal abortion, but it shortly followed the others. [Continue reading ...]

Carhart Goes to Washington

Abortionist LeRoy Carhart is well known for his challenges to the Partial Birth Abortion Bans passed by the state of Nebraska and by the United States Congress.

Abortionist LeRoy Carhart is well known for his challenges to the Partial Birth Abortion Bans passed by the state of Nebraska and by the United States Congress.

One way to decrease abortions, especially the late term ones, is to keep the abortionists from coming into your town or anywhere in your state.

Take the case of good old late-term abortion provider LeRoy Carhart. He had worked alongside Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas—helping him out doing late term abortions.

Then after Tiller was shot to death on May 31, 2009, Carhart announced that he would move right into Tiller’s mill and continue his late term abortion practice. But lo and behold, the Tiller family closed down the business and Carhart had to look elsewhere. [Continue reading ...]

The Significance of the 2010 Elections

Posted by Joe Scheidler (November 4, 2010 at 1:56 pm)

The big question now is: What does the Republican takeover of the U.S. House of Representatives do for the pro-life movement?

First of all, it is an major embarrassment to President Obama, as he essentially admitted in his post-election press conference.

The takeover of the House sends a clear message to Obama that his first two years in office have been essentially a disaster. Even he has had to acknowledge that fact.

And the turnover to a more pro-life and conservative House sends a clear message that Obamacare is so bad that it will lose whatever support it needs, and should be dismembered, piece by piece. This is probably
the greatest good to come from the November 2 elections. [Continue reading ...]

Creative Tactic for Showing the Truth about Abortion

Missy Smith

Way back in 1992 a young man from Southern Indiana called our office to see if we had some graphic pictures of aborted babies he could use as part of his campaign for the U.S. Congress.

Young Mike Bailey had first thought of running for state office, but then he found out that if he ran for Federal office he could put on any ad campaign he wanted, excluding only materials that were pornographic. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) found this to be a federal candidate’s right, which persists today. [Continue reading ...]

No Time for a “Truce” on Abortion

Posted by Joe Scheidler (August 30, 2010 at 1:41 pm)

jbottumIn the current issue of First Things, editor Joseph Bottum highlights some remarks by Mitch Daniels, the Republican governor of Indiana and presidential candidate, who has made the news by keeping Indiana out of the oceans of the debt that have swamped other states.

But, Daniels says, all of us should put our disagreements aside for the time being and all get together to solve the economic crisis. He has been strongly criticized by family values groups and even rival Republican candidates like Mike Huckabee.

Will any true pro-lifer take a time-out on fighting abortion because someone thinks a truce on this and other social issues should be called? [Continue reading ...]

Our August Truth Tour in Rockford, Illinois on Tuesday in the scorching sun—temperatures reached 90′s—was one of the most exciting monthly tours we’ve ever had.

Irate Mother Abandons Her Children To Scold Pro-Lifers

With at least 40 sign holders at each of the three stops, we were able to reach drivers coming from all four directions and to hand out flyers that explain clearly and succinctly the purpose of our tours. These flyers describe each of the six pictures drivers are seeing as they pass by the large copies of these pictures. [Continue reading ...]

Durango, Colorado is a quaint, bustling little town set in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful spots in the U.S., totally surrounded by pine-covered mountains. And that’s where I was honored to spend last Thursday and Friday at the invitation of Daniel Anguis, president of LifeGuard, and Keith Mason, a well known pro-life activist from Denver.

They encouraged 100 fearless pro-lifers to join their protest in front of the hospital where notorious abortionist Richard Grossman is on staff. Also on board as speakers were Fr. Joseph Fessio of Ignatius Press and Walter Hoye, who has spent time in jail in California for his pro-life activities.

We were all invited there to encourage the “Catholic” hospital, Mercy Regional, run by the Sisters of Mercy, to drop Grossman from their staff. [Continue reading ...]

Catholic Hospitals Need to Stress the “Catholic” Part

Ever since abortion was legalized by the Supreme Court in 1973, Catholic hospitals have had to grapple with the problem of having physicians on staff who perform abortions elsewhere.

Legally the administrators of these hospitals can only insist that doctors adhere to the hospital policy prohibiting abortion and other practices contrary to Catholic teaching on hospital property.

But the Catholic hospitals are still faced with the scandal caused by having an abortionist on staff. Catholic health care institutions are directed by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to be concerned about the danger of scandal in any association with abortion providers.

How can the hospital be sure that the abortion provider is not referring patients to his other location for abortions, sterilizations or birth control? How can the hospital be sure that the abortionist’s lack of respect for the sanctity of life does not transfer to his treatment of patients in the hospital? [Continue reading ...]

New recruits to our Face the Truth tours are often surprised at the negative reactions they get from drivers who see our graphic pictures.

Some Reactions Very Negative, Others Very Positive

They hear foul language expressed with anger and hatred. Sometimes their signs are pelted with eggs. Their signs are spit on, or pushed by an angry pedestrian.

These expressions of hatred of the pictures of aborted babies challenge the volunteer to remain calm and cheerful under stress. We old-timers have grown accustomed to the negative aspect of taking part in the Truth Tour, but we are also overjoyed by the positive responses we often get.

The newcomer should also be aware that what he is doing is also appreciated by many who view the pictures that are so offensive to others. It is this positive reaction that makes a Face the Truth tour exciting and worthwhile. [Continue reading ...]
