UPDATE: 9:15pm: I had to scroll to page 141 of their photos to get past all the pro-life responses! Like the commenter below said–someone must have gone home for the night! They’ll have quite a task ahead of them in the morning…
NARAL Pro-Choice America is looking for photos as part of a “photo petition” to Congress to put a face on “choice”. Their website invites people to:
Join our photo petition today.
1. Make a sign. Make a sign from scratch or download and print out our sign.
2. Take a picture of yourself holding the sign. You can use your camera, a webcam, or even a photo from your phone is fine!
3.
Email your picture to hall33ready@photos.flickr.com[Update: 5/26, 9:52am: pictures sent to this address are no longer appearing on NARAL's Flickr site.] – a unique address that will automatically upload your photo to NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Flickr site. (You can use the subject line to give your photo a title and the body to add a description.)
The problem for them, though, is that pro-lifers have decided to participate in the “petition” also.
In fact, here’s what I saw when I went to NARAL’s page advertising the event: [Continue reading ...]
At our Face the Truth Tour stop in Hanover Park, Illinois on Wednesday, a man approached me after talking to Chris, one of our sign-holding volunteers. He said “the other guy” wouldn’t answer his question, so would I? I told him I’d try my best.
It turns out it was the same, standard, “Why aren’t you helping some other group instead of unborn babies?” shtick we’ve all heard a million times. And although Chris had answered him, he wasn’t satisfied.
He demanded to know what we were doing about the 10,000 infants in America who were dying “at their mother’s breasts” every day from starvation.
Finally I called him out on that number, telling him I just didn’t believe it was true.
He challenged me to look it up, so I did. He said his numbers came from the World Health Organization, among other sources, so I went to the WHO for my statistics.
Not surprisingly, he was wrong. [Continue reading ...]

The package insert from the emergency contraceptive Plan B. Read closely the bold section that explains "how this product works."
On April 24, Aurora Beacon columnist Jeff Ward wrote a column titled “Your beliefs have nothing to do with my Rx.”
In it Ward argues that pharmacists who don’t want to sell Plan B and other oral contraceptives should not have become pharmacists in the first place.
He also argues that “the not so funny inevitabilities” of a moral stance that prohibits a pharmacist from dispensing Plan B would similarly keep Muslims from selling Nyquil (which contains alcohol) or “Jewish pharmacists wouldn’t fill Heparin prescriptions because that blood thinner is derived from pig intestines.” [Continue reading ...]

Abortion is supposed to be about “choice,” right?
But without options, “choice” is a meaningless phrase. Yet this is what abortion advocates and so-called “clinic escorts” (deathscorts) seem to want: abortion without any alternatives or information.
One of the links posted to the inaugural “Pro-Life Link Party” was the text of a speech by Abigail Seidman, who had to work as a “clinic escort” because her mother worked for the clinic. I found Abigail’s insight on these volunteers valuable: [Continue reading ...]
While it’s still too early for any major celebrating, the bill to defund Planned Parenthood in Indiana that Governor Mitch Daniels signed into law today is definitely a positive step for efforts to defund America’s largest abortion chain.
When Governor Mitch Daniels signed this bill into law, Indiana became the first state in the union to cut off all funds to Planned Parenthood.
When debating whether to cut off funds, the evidence obtained by activist Lila Rose and LiveAction were crucial in the decision to pass the bill. [Continue reading ...]
Perhaps it’s just that a broken clock is right twice a day. But I think this article is a little more promising than that.
My dad, Dan Gura, was reading last week’s Chicago Reader, a free Chicago newspaper. He was surprised to find some somewhat reasonable advise from the typically off-track and virulent Dan Savage in his love advice column “Savage Love.”
A woman calling herself “Classy Lady” writes (caution: explicit language used):
I was hanging out with a guy who’s in a relationship. … A while ago, I made the drunken mistake of climbing into the backseat of a car with him, and things got racy pretty quickly. …
Here we are a bit later, and I just had a pregnancy scare. Had I been pregnant, I would have had an abortion. If I’d actually been facing an abortion, I would have called and told him. Would that have been the right thing to do?
I wouldn’t have asked for money or support; I would have told him solely because it would have felt wrong not to. I had some feeling, like he should know—because he has a right to know, you know? I can’t imagine I’m the only woman who’s been faced with a “to tell or not to tell” situation. Weigh in?
Catherine, the brand-new Duchess of Cambridge, is known for being a fashion trend setter. So I was pleased when I saw that her dress was actually quite modest–by American wedding dress standards, that is.
Take a look at People Magazine’s “Fantasy Gowns for Kate” and count how many have anything on the shoulders, let alone long sleeves and you’ll see what I mean.
So will this cause a shift in dress design? I sure hope so.
What do you think? Will it last?

Referring to a new study conducted in California on maternal mortality, an article by Mother Jones‘ editorial coordinator Jen Phillips begins with this sentence:
Despite what the protesters at your local Planned Parenthood may say, abortion is not unsafe.
You can guess where the article goes from there…downhill.
Although the study itself [pdf] makes no mention of abortion, Philips uses it as an opportunity to try to make abortion look safe. She continues:
In fact, you’re about 20 times more likely to die from childbirth-related ailments than you are from getting an abortion.
Here’s another article worth reading. This one by well known conservative author Ann Coulter.
It shows the importance of knowing your facts and using the numbers correctly to prove your point. Unfortunately Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) really put his foot in his mouth when he said that 90% of Planned Parenthood’s services were abortion–and then told reporters this was “not intended to be a factual statement.”
If he had only clarified, as Coulter does, his reputation might have fared better. [Continue reading ...]
