League Protests award to Joe Biden at Notre Dame Commencement

Protest grout at Notre DameDozens of pro-life volunteers turned out this past Sunday at the entrance of the University of Notre Dame to protest reception of the prestigious Laetare Medal to Vice President Joe Biden.

The protest at the intersection of Angela Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue was co-sponsored by the Pro-Life Action League, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and the Apostolate of Divine Mercy, which runs a local pregnancy center. In addition to the protest at the University entrance, full-page ads [PDF] were placed in the South Bend Tribune and Notre Dame Observer denouncing the Biden award. CPLS’s Monica Miller distributed 300 copies of the ad on campus during the protest.

The event was well covered by the local media, including the South Bend Tribune, Fox TV 28, CBS TV 22 and ABC TV 57.

As I said to the South Bend Tribune, “The idea that our unborn brothers and sisters would be without a voice today is unconscionable. That’s why we are here.” Joe Biden and Notre Dame have may have turned their backs on the unborn victims of abortion, but the Pro-Life Action League was there to speak for them—as we always will be.
