League Hits the Streets for Year’s First “Face the Truth” Day

Face the Truth day south side of ChicagoA team of 20 stalwart pro-life activists came to the South Side of Chicago April 2 to take part in the Pro-Life Action League’s first “Face the Truth” Day of 2014.

Our first site was the high-traffic intersection of Cermak Road and Ashland Avenue in the Pilsen neighborhood. The site proved to be a golden opportunity for distributing large quantities of brochures that explain why we show the photos of abortion victims in the public square, as motorists stopped at the intersection as well as pedestrians accepted our literature far more often than usual.

We then moved on to a site we’d never done before: 31st Street and Wentworth Avenue in the Armour Square neighborhood. This site was chosen because of its close proximity to US Cellular Field, which allowed us to reach thousands of fans on their way to the White Sox day game.

Face the Truth day south side of ChicagoJust as we began to set up our signs at the intersection, a man from the neighborhood approached the group and expressed his support for the pro-life cause, and then proceeded to have a long conversation with League national director Joe Scheidler, during which he talked rather candidly about his own numerous personal struggles, most notably a drug addiction. Always willing to talk to anyone, Joe offered the man words of encouragement in facing his demons.

We normally don’t run into any problems with Chicago Police, so we were a bit concerned when League vice president Ann Scheidler (who was in the street passing out brochures) was waved over by an officer who flashed his lights at her to get her attention. We thought for certain that he was going to tell her she wasn’t allowed to be in the street, but instead, he told her he was pro-life, and he wanted one of our brochures for himself!

After all the signs were packed up, League executive director Eric Scheidler led the group in prayer, thanking God for the opportunity to stand up for the rights of our unborn brothers and sisters. Check out more pictures in the slideshow below:
