The Pro-Life Action League is heartened to hear that Kathleen Sebelius is resigning as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a post she has held since the early days of the Obama administration.

As HHS head, Sebelius was responsible for implementing the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare,” and came under fire from both the right and left for the program’s horribly botched launch last year.

Sebelius was responsible for enacting the notorious HHS Mandate that forces employers to provide free abortion-inducing drugs and contraceptives in their employees’ health plans. She also helped to keep health care consumers in the dark about whether their plans cover abortion, despite agreeing in a Congressional hearing that all coverage should be transparent.

Before coming to HHS, Sebelius served as governor of Kansas, an office she used to shelter her friends in the abortion industry from public scrutiny, including notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller. She continued to vigorously support the abortion industry as HHS Secretary, even going so far as to try to sue states attempting to cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

In October 2011, the Pro-Life Action League protested Sebelius when she came to Chicago to speak at a fundraiser for NARAL Pro-Choice America. During her talk she mentioned the protest, calling it “appalling” and conflating it with the League’s compassionate outreach at abortion clinics.

The abortion industry will be sorry to see such a staunch ally leave her position of power and influence—one more reason the Pro-Life Action League is glad to see her go.
