This week I received the sad news that pro-life activist Richard Herner had passed away. I had noticed Rich’s absence at the monthly protest at Planned Parenthood in Aurora this past Saturday.

Rich was a regular at these protests, held the third Saturday of every month, as well as a regular prayer warrior at the Aanchor Health Center abortion clinic in Glen Ellyn. Richard lived in an apartment complex right behind the abortuary and offered countless hours of prayer there from the time it opened in 2002.

Rich was a generous man, often giving away packets of pro-life materials and religious aides to his fellow protesters at the monthly protests in Aurora, and supporting the Pro-Life Action League with regular financial gifts.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26 from 2-6 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street in Lombard (map), with a brief prayer service at 5 p.m. for those who have prayed with Rich at the Glen Ellyn abortion clinic over the years.

A Funeral Mass for Rich will be held Monday, August 27th at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1501 South Main Street in Lombard (map).

Richard Herner will be missed by the pro-life activists at both the Aurora and Glen Ellyn abortion facilities, where he was such a regular, faithful presence. The monthly protest in Aurora on September 15 will be held in honor of his memory.
