Planned Parenthood’s Anti-Choice Ruse in Dubuque, Iowa

Planned Parenthood: BAD for DubuquePlanned Parenthood has done it again. They created a front company to purchase real estate, just like they did in Aurora, Illinois. The target of their deceptive practices this time: Dubuque, Iowa.

In Aurora, Planned Parenthood created a subsidiary named Gemini Office Development, LLC to purchase property and obtain building permits, even going so far as to lie outright to city officials about the identity of the future occupant.

In Dubuque, they created Hillcrest, LLC to attempt the same caper. And as in Aurora, Planned Parenthood officials tried to justify their ruse by pointing the finger at pro-life activists.

Planned Parenthood’s Excuses Don’t Hold Up

In an article in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland CEO Jill June claimed, “In order to protect our staff and our patients from this continued bullying, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland and our numerous Iowa supporters created Hillcrest, LLC so we could purchase this building.”

June’s claim that they had to buy this building with a front company for the sake of their patients and staff holds no water.

Unless they had hoped to keep their new location secret from everyone—a poor strategy for luring in new clients—Planned Parenthood had to know the pro-life activity they call “bullying” and we call “outreach” wouldn’t stop just because they’re moving to a new building.

“Our protest campaign will continue outside this new location, as will our education and information efforts,” said Dubuque County Right to Life Executive Director Steve Brody in an August 30 press release (not yet available online).

Planned Parenthood’s Real Motivation is to Limit Choice

The Telegraph-Herald article makes it clear what their real motivation for creating Hillcrest was: to prevent property owners from realizing they were selling to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood, behind the “Hillcrest” mask, purchased their new building from DuTrac Community Credit Union, which was completely unaware they were selling to the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Planned Parenthood knows full well that many property owners, realty companies, real estate agents, contractors and the like would choose not do business with them, either because they’re pro-life or because they want to avoid being associated with the abortion controversy. That’s why they created Gemini in Aurora and Hillcrest in Dubuque.

When it comes to respecting the wishes of those who would rather not participate in their ugly business, Planned Parenthood is anti-choice.
