St. John Cathedral, MilwaukeeToday in League HistoryJanuary 3, 1983—League Director Joe Scheidler and activists Rich Freeman and Eleanor Buron lead a picket at the Cathedral of St. John in Milwaukee, where Mass is being celebrated in honor of Wisconsin’s new pro-abortion governor, Anthony Earl. Pro-lifers distribute leaflets exposing Earl’s pro-abortion positions, such as favoring public funding of abortion and giving out contraceptives to children without their parents’ knowledge. The picket gets great press coverage, thanks to the new governor’s insistence that the media not be allowed into the Cathedral.
