November 12, 1984—League Director Joe Scheidler registers for the American Public Health Association (APHA) Convention in Anaheim, California, and then he goes outside the convention center to lead a picket with Pastor Ed Howard. He leads chants of “APHA kills babies” and “Life yes, APHA no.” The picketers later distribute hundreds of fliers on fetal development inside the convention hall. A woman at a Planned Parenthood booth calls Joe “the most disgusting man in America.” Joe takes it as a compliment, considering the source.
