November 3, 1981—League Director Joe Scheidler launches a campaign to get Ann Landers’s syndicated column, “Dear Abby,” out of newspapers nationwide after Landers brags to NBC-TV that she was willing to “take on” the pro-life movement in order to defeat the Human Life Amendment. The campaign is intended to show the strength of the movement Landers is challenging, and takes Landers to task for staunchly promoting abortion, including refering young women to Planned Parenthood for “help” resolving unplanned pregnancies. Letters to the editor against Landers appear in dozens of newspapers from coast to coast.
