October 1, 2007—League Communications Director Eric Scheidler files a libel suit against Steve Trombley, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, over a newspaper ad and letters to the Aurora City Council in which Trombley and Planned Parenthood accused the League of having “a well documented history of advocating violence.” Only hours later, Aurora Mayor Thomas Weisner announces in a closed-door press conference that he will allow Planned Parenthood to open in Aurora, despite having promised to share the results of an investigation into fraud allegations with the Council and public before taking action.
