No Trespassing signToday in League HistoryJuly 9, 1986—League Director Joe Scheidler is found not guilty of harassment during a brief trial in Wilmington, Delaware, stemming from an incident in April when he entered an abortion facility with three clergymen. And though the judge does find him guilty of second degree trespass for not leaving the clinic immediately when requested to do so, with the minimum fine of $50, he gives Joe a commendation for his cooperation. This case would later play a role in the NOW v. Scheidler lawsuit, and may have led to Joe’s being banned from entering Canada for a time.
