On Sunday, August 30 the prayers of the pro-life community in Illinois’ Fox Valley were answered with the dedication of Waterleaf Women’s Center. The new pro-life pregnancy center is less than a quarter mile from the massive Planned Parenthood abortuary opened two years ago under a cloud of lies and deception.
Ever since Planned Parenthood opened, pro-life counselors on site have felt the urgent need for a nearby pregnancy center that would offer help and compassion to abortion-minded women. That need will be fulfilled by Waterleaf.
Waterleaf was the inspiration of veteran counselor Cindy Crane, formerly the executive director of Women’s Choice Services of Dupage County. Cindy teamed up with pro-lifers Kelly Gorsky and Maura Marcotte to raise the funds and make the connections necessary to open Waterleaf.
In the spring, Cindy and Kelly met with the League’s Joe, Ann and Eric Scheidler to discuss the need for the center and get input on all that must be accomplished to make Waterleaf a reality. The Scheidlers were enthusiastic about the plan and eager to offer guidance.

One hundred area pro-lifers gathered at 3 p.m. Sunday for the dedication, led by Fr. Thomas Milota of Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Naperville. Fr. Milota is the Respect Life Coordinator of the Diocese of Joliet, and his parish has been a major contributor in the prayer effort at Planned Parenthood over the last two years.
Among the many attendees at the dedication were many of the most stalwart pro-life counselors stationed throughout the month at Planned Parenthood and representatives from the area’s most pro-life churches. Waterleaf has been warmly welcomed to the Fox Valley—in stark contrast to Planned Parenthood.
Waterleaf will be officially opened for the business of helping women choose life for their babies once all their permits are sign-off by the City of Aurora.
