Report From Upbeat AZ Right To Life Convention

Posted by Joe Scheidler (September 1, 2009 at 12:51 pm)

The Arizona Right to Life 2009 Annual Pro-Life Conference last weekend in Scottsdale was one of the most upbeat programs I have ever attended or taken part in.

Hub of the New Pro-Life Movement

Held at the Scottsdale Chaparral Suites, this conference not only featured some of America’s top pro-life activists and educators like Phoenix Attorney John Jakubczyk and keynoter Janet Folger of Faith2Action (now Janet Porter) but with the clergy represented by pro-life Bishop Thomas Olmsted, and speakers like Dr. David Prentice of the Family Research Council and Dr. John Mark Reynolds of Biola University, the program was bound to be good.

But it was the upbeat, optimistic attitude of the people attending from all over Arizona, including one of my very favorite Face the Truth leaders, Sunny Turner and her group from Tucson, who gave a flavor of eventual victory to the whole event.

The state had gotten rid of its pro-abortion Governor, Janet Napolitano, now head of Obama’s notorious Homeland Security forces, and their new chief, Jan Brewer, signed three pro-life bills that had been held captive for years. That helped the spirit some. Jakubczyk believes Arizona is fast becoming the hub of the new pro-life movement.

New Pregnancy Center Near Aurora Planned Parenthood

Back here in Illinois a new Crisis Pregnancy Center opened in Aurora, just down the street from the infamous Planned Parenthood Abortion mill. Waterleaf Women’s Center is at 2849 E. New York St. in the western suburb walking distance from Planned Parenthood Aurora just a couple of blocks away also on E. New York St. We were sorry to miss the gala opening Sunday but were en route from Arizona.

Kelly Gorsky of Naperville is quoted in the Sun-Times saying Waterleaf will offer free pregnancy tests, counseling, adoption info and help to mothers with newborns.

May Robert Schindler Rest In Peace

Ann and I had dinner one evening in Rockford, IL with Robert Schindler, the father of Terri Schiavo. We found his family’s description of Terri’s father to be right on target: “a compassionate man who led with a quiet strength.”

During the years we would continue to encounter this quiet man who went through so much pain and disappointment, as he tried to save his daughter from a government enforced killing. Mr. Schindler’s son, Bobby, is quoted in an AP obit in the Chicago Tribune saying that, “Even at the height of the battle to save my sister Terri’s life, when his patience and temperance was near exhaustion, he managed to display a gentleness of spirit.”

We were sad to hear of Robert Schindler’s death from heart failure in St. Petersburg, FL last week. May he rest in peace.
